Tridens flavus
Common Name :
If you need a salt-tolerant bunchgrass, consider Purpletop, named for its purple-ish seed heads that show up in late summer into fall. Nicknamed “Grease Grass” because of its oily seeds, this plant provides valuable nutrients for many birds and mammals, but deer typically do not like it. Skipper moths and Common Wood Nymph larvae use Purpletop as a host plant and it provides food for mature Common Wood Nymph butterflies.
