New York Aster produces small, purplish, daisy-like flowers from late summer to fall. It grows from 1-4’ tall with a bushy growth form, and is a larval host plant of the Silvery Checkerspot butterfly and the Pearl Crescent butterfly. Bees and butterflies are drawn to its nectar, which is important in the late fall when other food sources are scarce. This aster thrives in various conditions and can help to stabilize soil.
