Perfect for shady areas as a groundcover, for borders, for mass plantings, or as a container plant, American Alumroot forms low-growing evergreen mounds and adds color with its variegated leaves, often veined with bronze and purple. Delicate bell-shaped flowers appear in late spring on leafless stalks (2-3’) and bloom for several weeks, adding a subtle, airy contrast to the foliage. Can be grown under Black Walnut trees because of its juglone tolerance, and deer stay away from its bitter tasting leaves, and attracts many bees.
