Sweet pepperbush, a compact deciduous shrub native to swampy woodlands, boldly announces itself with a spicy aroma from mid to late summer. Its fragrant white or pale pink upright flowers (panicles) attract butterflies and bees. Prefers moist, acidic soil and tolerates full shade.
