Cephalanthus occidentalis

This fast-growing, perky-looking deciduous shrub gets its name, Buttonbush, from its fragrant white, ball-shaped, spiky flowers. A good choice for wetlands and the borders of streams and rivers; however, Buttonbush is highly resilient and adaptable to many growing conditions. It works well as a foundation shrub and in landscaped yards.

Valuable for preventing erosion and serving as a food source for waterfowl, this plant is, however, toxic to humans and pets.
