Astragalus canadensis
Common Name :
Canadian Milkvetch
Valuable for erosion control and for nitrogen-fixing, Canada Milkvetch is a perennial herb with white flowers that bloom between May and July. A variety of bees feed on its nectar, and it is noted particularly as a food source for the tiny weevil acanthoscelides aureoles that lives at the lowest level of the predatory food chain. The butterfly Colias Alexandra is hosted by this plant.
