Andropogon gerardii
Big Bluestem is a highly versatile, upright bunch grass with a deep extensive root system that makes it an excellent choice for restoration projects and erosion control. Varying colors on the stems, flowers, and seed heads provide visual interest from spring through winter, making it a fine choice for cottage gardens and perennial borders as well. Mature plants do need plenty of room--they can reach 5-6’ tall and 2-4’ around.
