This herbaceous, drought tolerant perennial in the mint family produces unusual, complex blossoms, revealing 4-5 colors in a single bloom. Almost tropical looking, it is indeed a native of North America and offers an abundance of pollen and nectar to several species of moths and butterflies, Herbaceous mammals find them stinky, so they stay away.
